For the second consecutive year, the Ateneo de Manila University, through the Ateneo Intellectual Property Office (AIPO), recently won the IP C.I.R.C.L.E League competition organized by the IP Academy of the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL). The IP C.I.R.C.L.E League is a multi-competition that allows participants from different universities to Create, Interact, Refine, Compete, Learn, and Experience intellectual property. The Festival of Stories was held on November 25, 2024, at the University of the Philippines, Bonifacio Global City Campus, Taguig City.
The IP C.I.R.C.L.E. League was comprised of four (4) different competitions, including 1) The Quiz, a knowledge and skills competition that aimed to enrich the IP learning experience of students; 2) The Debate, which aimed to uncover and openly discuss gray areas in the intellectual property laws of the country through a healthy exchange of ideas in the form of debate; 3) The Story, a short film-making competition that showed the role of intellectual property in social issues; and 4) The Ad, a digital poster-making competition that aimed to strengthen IP advocacies.
Ateneo made a significant impact by securing the championship in "The Ad" category, represented by Ms Lei Danielle Pacalda, BS Legal Management. Her creative effort was guided by AIPO’s Protection and Education Group (PEG), comprising Ms Madielaine Fatallo, Ms Charity Maquiling, and Ms Vanessa Malapit, MSc.
The winning poster centers around the theme “Harnessing Intellectual Property for a Sustainable Future: Advancing the 17 SDGs,” emphasizing the creators' role as stewards of innovation, bridging yesterday’s and today’s creations for the benefit of future generations. It conveys a powerful message that “intangible thoughts can create actionable impacts,” underscoring the pivotal role of intellectual property in driving sustainable development and fostering innovation. This compelling narrative celebrates how creativity and innovation can contribute meaningfully to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
Ateneo's remarkable performance in "The AD" category marked a significant achievement, adding to the university's growing legacy of success in intellectual property competitions. It reflects the university’s unwavering commitment to nurturing creativity, innovation, and IP awareness within its academic community and beyond.
The competition also featured Ateneo students Mr John Joel Escober for 'The AD' and Mr Mikala Seth Campos and his team for 'The Story’.
